EU Regulators Consider Gatekeeper Status for Azure as Qualcomm Joins $40B AI Chip Strategy

1. EU Gatekeeper Proposal Targets Azure
European Union antitrust regulators have indicated that Microsoft Azure meets the thresholds for gatekeeper designation under the Digital Markets Act, which would impose data access, interoperability and transparency mandates on the cloud division.
2. Qualcomm Partnership to Boost Azure AI
At its 2026 Investor Day, Qualcomm unveiled its Dragonfly High Bandwidth Compute chip architecture and confirmed Microsoft’s Azure will deploy it in mid-2027, aligning with Qualcomm’s goal of achieving $40 billion in non-handset revenue by fiscal 2029.
