Exelon will hire Tim Peterson from Xcel Energy as Executive VP and Chief Customer and Technology Officer in February, reporting to CEO Calvin Butler. He will lead an integrated customer strategy and IT organization serving over 10.7 million customers across five states and the District of Columbia.

Peterson joins from Xcel Energy, where as senior vice president, CIO and CTO he managed digital and IT functions for nearly six million customers across eight states. At Exelon, he will report directly to President and CEO Calvin Butler and take a seat on the Executive Committee, overseeing an enterprise-wide group that merges customer strategy, experience and IT operations to serve more than 10.7 million customers in five states plus Washington, D.C.

In his new role, Peterson will lead the integration of customer-facing functions with information technology across Exelon’s six regulated transmission and distribution utilities: Atlantic City Electric, BGE, ComEd, Delmarva Power, PECO and Pepco. His prior CIO roles at Optum, Wellmark and TruStage Financial Group underscore his experience in large-scale technology deployments. Peterson holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota and a BBA from the University of Wisconsin, and is CISSP-certified. His board service with the Science Museum of Minnesota and the Minnesota Technology Association highlights his community engagement.
