Exelon’s ComEd wins Illinois approval for DeKalb County KARE transmission line project
EXC•Illinois approves KARE transmission project
Illinois regulators granted ComEd a CPCN to build the KARE transmission project in DeKalb County to bolster grid reliability.
The buildout includes about 6 miles of double-circuit 345 kV overhead line on existing right-of-way south of DeKalb.
The plan also adds a new 345 kV and 138 kV substation near Keslinger Road and Crego Road, linked to an extended existing line.
The project targets rising regional electricity demand, improved storm resilience, and future renewable interconnections.
