Lilly said its experimental EloraTZP combination drug produced average weight loss of 23.3% over 48 weeks in patients with diabetes, compared with 14.8% for Zepbound at the highest tested doses. Discontinuation rates on EloraTZP ranged from 10.8% to 27%, and Lilly plans to start late-stage trials in the fourth quarter of 2026.
In a mid-stage trial of 367 adults with obesity or overweight and type 2 diabetes, Lilly’s EloraTZP, combining tirzepatide and experimental drug eloralintide, produced average weight loss of 23.3% at the highest tested dose over 48 weeks. The highest dose of Zepbound, whose active ingredient is tirzepatide, produced average weight loss of 14.8%. EloraTZP lowered A1C by up to 2.9%, compared with 2.4% for tirzepatide alone.
EloraTZP discontinuation rates ranged from 10.8% to 27%, depending on side-effect severity, compared with 2.9% for tirzepatide alone. The company said side effects were mainly mild to moderate gastrointestinal issues and that it plans to improve dose-escalation schedules in later trials. Lilly aims to begin late-stage EloraTZP trials in the fourth quarter of 2026.
