Golden Pass LNG Starts First Train Production with 18.1 Mtpa Capacity
Golden Pass LNG JV between QatarEnergy (70%) and ExxonMobil (30%) produced its first LNG at Sabine Pass, Texas, marking start-up of the first of three planned trains. The facility’s total capacity is 18.1 mtpa, with global exports expected in Q2 2026 following the $10bn FID in February 2019.
1. First Train Production
Golden Pass LNG’s first liquefaction train at its Sabine Pass, Texas export terminal has produced its initial liquefied natural gas. This marks the operational start of one of three planned trains with combined capacity of 18.1 mtpa.
2. Joint Venture Structure and Investment
The project is a joint venture with QatarEnergy holding a 70% stake and ExxonMobil owning 30%. The partners made a final investment decision of over $10bn in February 2019 to develop the export terminal.
3. Infrastructure and Export Outlook
The Sabine Pass facility features five 155,000m3 storage tanks and two marine berths capable of handling the largest LNG carriers. Golden Pass LNG expects to begin global exports in the second quarter of 2026 as commissioning continues.
