The FDA issued Modified Risk Tobacco Product orders for 20 Zyn nicotine pouch variants, marking the first time any nicotine pouch has received such clearance; the authorization permits explicit labeling of reduced risks for cancer, heart disease, stroke, emphysema and chronic bronchitis compared with cigarettes.
Zyn, acquired through the Swedish Match deal, represents PMI’s fastest-growing consumer franchise and underpins its smoke-free product pivot; clinical data show over 50% of adult smokers using Zyn quit cigarettes entirely within 30 days, while 80.7% reduced their daily cigarette intake after switching.
A PMI U.S. survey found that 86% of Americans favor innovations that solve everyday problems over headline-grabbing projects, 77% view much current innovation as hype rather than impact, and 90% expect companies to engage local communities as partners for meaningful solutions.
