Stellantis will launch a China-built large Jeep SUV in Europe by 2030 via a 51%–49% joint venture with Dongfeng, producing the model at Dongfeng’s Wuhan plant. This expansion revives CEO Antonio Filosa’s alliance and grows Jeep’s European lineup from two to six models as shares sit down 49% YTD.
Stellantis will introduce a large Jeep SUV built at Dongfeng’s Wuhan facility by 2030, marking the first China-produced model in the brand’s European lineup. The D-segment vehicle is jointly developed with Dongfeng Motor and designed for sales in both Europe and China.
CEO Antonio Filosa reinstated the alliance with Dongfeng by establishing a joint venture with 51% Stellantis ownership, enabling the Chinese partner to manufacture vehicles at a Stellantis plant in France. This structure indicates deeper technological and supply chain collaboration.
Jeep’s European range will expand from two current models to six by decade’s end, including two compact SUVs alongside the new large SUV and electrified Recon model launching next year. All-new models will offer multiple powertrains, including hybrid and fully electric options with available all-wheel drive.
Stellantis shares have slid 49% this year and dipped 0.4% in Milan following the announcement, reflecting investor scrutiny of whether Chinese manufacturing will enhance competitiveness without dilution of Jeep’s American heritage. The outcome of this strategy is seen as critical to the group’s broader turnaround efforts.
