FedEx, China Southern Air Logistics Sign MOU to Share Capacity; Guangzhou Hub to Double Size and Triple Sorting Capacity
FDX•FedEx and China Southern Air Logistics signed an MOU in Guangzhou to explore capacity sharing, hub connections, network planning, fleet resource coordination, ground operations and digitalization for air logistics networks. FedEx also plans to expand its Asia-Pacific hub at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport to double terminal size and triple sorting capacity.
1. MOU Signed in Guangzhou
FedEx and China Southern Air Logistics last week signed an MOU in Guangzhou to establish a formal working relationship for their respective air logistics networks.
2. Collaboration Scope
Under the agreement, the companies will explore capacity sharing, route coordination, hub connectivity, network planning, fleet resource utilization, ground operations optimization and digitalization to boost route connectivity and operational efficiency in domestic and international markets.
3. Guangzhou Hub Expansion
Separately, FedEx is expanding its Asia-Pacific hub at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, a project set to double terminal size and triple sorting capacity, with completion expected next year to meet growing cross-border trade demand.
4. Philippines Gateway Expansion
FedEx also recently broke ground on an 840,000-square-foot expansion of its Clark gateway facility in the Philippines, featuring upgraded handling and operational systems to enhance regional capacity, shipment flow and service flexibility, a move mirrored by rival UPS expanding its Philippine air hub.
