1. FedEx SameDay Local Launch
FedEx rolled out its SameDay Local service on March 24 through a partnership with OneRail to source final-mile couriers nationwide. The white-labeled solution lets merchants offer two-hour or end-of-day delivery via more than 1,000 delivery providers coordinated through OneRail’s integrated technology, aiming to match UPS’s Roadie and Delivery Solutions platforms and reclaim small parcel volume from retailers.
2. UPS Driver Buyout Scheme Withdrawal
On the same day, UPS withdrew its latest driver buyout scheme in its central region states after notifying the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The reversal of an offer designed to reduce labor costs by incentivizing voluntary departures raises questions about ongoing union negotiations and potential impacts on UPS’s operating margins.
