FICO’s Fall ’26 Credit Insights report showed the average US FICO Score held at 714, flat since October 2025.
Early-stage mortgage delinquency eased to 1.35% from 1.42% year-over-year, while auto 30-day delinquency improved to 2.6%.

Student-loan delinquencies diverged; 3.2 million borrowers with payments due saw an average 38-point year-over-year score drop.
Mortgage affordability remained strained
Mortgage affordability remained strained; the average first-time homebuyer payment hit $2,563, up 57% since 2019.
Stress concentrated in lower score bands, with sub-620 mortgage balances rising 43% since April 2019, outpacing 30% inflation.
