First Russian diesel from Putin-Trump deal heading for US, data shows
USO•A tanker carrying 40,000 metric tons of Russian diesel is heading to New York and is expected to arrive November 7. It would be the first Russian petroleum product imported by the US since the 2022 ban.
1. Tanker heads to New York
The Malta-flagged tanker Agioi Fanendes loaded 40,000 metric tons of ultra-low sulphur diesel at Russia’s Primorsk port on October 22 and is expected to arrive in the United States on November 7. The buyer and seller were not immediately known.
2. More shipments planned
The shipment follows an agreement between Moscow and US President Donald Trump. Trump announced on October 9 that Russia would export 300,000 metric tons to the US and global markets, followed by 500,000 tons in November and 1 million tons “immediately thereafter.” Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said additional shipments would follow as companies work out contracts.
3. Exports could rise
Novak said Russia could increase diesel exports to its usual level of 3 million to 3.5 million tons per month by year-end. Russia agreed to lift a self-imposed ban on diesel exports as part of the deal.
