Gap tests Bold Metrics’ AI sizing tool to cut billions in returns
Gap Inc. is testing Bold Metrics’ Agentic Sizing Protocol to power AI-driven size recommendations by creating shopper digital twins from minimal inputs. The tool aims to reduce apparel e-commerce returns estimated at billions annually by delivering personalized fit insights directly through AI shopping agents.
1. Partnership for AI-Driven Sizing
Gap Inc. has partnered with Bold Metrics to pilot the Agentic Sizing Protocol, an AI-driven tool that generates personalized size recommendations through a few conversational questions and minimal body-data inputs. The protocol creates a digital twin of each shopper’s body and combines it with garment-level fit data to deliver human-readable guidance, such as whether a waist will feel snug or a chest relaxed.
2. Reducing Returns and Boosting Conversion
Apparel e-commerce returns cost retailers billions annually, often due to sizing uncertainty. By integrating this AI sizing solution directly into shopping agents, Gap aims to streamline the purchase process, boost customer confidence, reduce return rates and improve sales conversion across its online platforms.
