Generac has acquired and will operationalize a new manufacturing facility in Sussex, Wisconsin, to add large-megawatt generator capacity supporting data center, healthcare, and industrial verticals. The plant, scheduled to open in fourth-quarter 2026 with over 100 new jobs, follows a doubling of its C&I order backlog reported in Q3.

1. Sussex Facility Acquisition to Expand C&I Production

Generac has finalized the acquisition of a manufacturing plant in Sussex, Wisconsin, converting it into a Commercial & Industrial production hub. The facility adds 200,000 square feet of assembly and test space dedicated to large-megawatt backup generators. This strategic move increases Generac’s C&I manufacturing footprint by nearly 25% in the U.S. and provides operational flexibility to ramp output for high-volume orders. The Sussex site is slated to begin production in Q4 2026, aligning with Generac’s goal to double C&I sales within three to five years.

2. Surging Data Center Demand and Order Backlog Growth

Generac is capitalizing on data center power needs as global capacity is forecast to more than triple by 2030, according to McKinsey. Since introducing large-megawatt generators, the company reported a 100% increase in its order backlog on the Q3 earnings call, with data center customers accounting for over 40% of new orders. Management expects the Sussex facility to eliminate current production bottlenecks and support year-over-year C&I revenue growth of 20%+ through 2028, driven primarily by multi-megawatt projects in North America and EMEA.

3. Workforce Expansion and Global Network Integration

The Sussex plant will create more than 100 new manufacturing positions by its opening date, adding to Generac’s existing network of nine C&I facilities across Mexico, Europe, Asia and South America. This expansion strengthens supply chain resilience and reduces lead times for critical components. With over 65 years of industry experience, Generac’s global C&I workforce will exceed 1,200 employees by 2027, supporting growth in healthcare, hospitality, water utilities, heavy industry and data center verticals.
