1. Georgetown University Selects Cisco for Campus-Wide Wi-Fi 7 Transformation
Cisco has entered a multi-year agreement with Georgetown University to deploy one of the largest Wi-Fi 7 networks in higher education, covering classrooms, dormitories, stadiums and common areas across both the Hilltop and Capitol campuses. The project will utilize Cisco’s latest enterprise switching and wireless solutions—operating across all wireless spectra, including the 6 GHz band—to deliver sub-millisecond latency and speeds exceeding 10 Gbps per user device. This upgrade supports research laboratories handling terabyte-scale AI datasets, digital learning platforms with simultaneous 5,000-seat video streams, and real-time analytics via Cisco’s advanced network automation and performance-insights tools. Georgetown’s IT team will implement a multi-layered security framework featuring multi-factor authentication, full network visibility and real-time security operations analytics to safeguard research data, student records and campus operations. “Instant connectivity is now the standard,” said Gary DePreta, Senior Vice President of U.S. Public Sector at Cisco, highlighting the project’s role in preparing Georgetown’s 19,000 students and 6,000 faculty and staff for an AI-driven campus experience.
