Hurricane Helene in 2024 inflicted historic damage on Georgia Power’s infrastructure, breaking 12,000 poles, damaging 5,800 transformers, downing 1,500 miles of power lines and necessitating repair or rebuilding of over 345 transmission structures.

Over the past three years, Georgia Power has deployed $1.3 billion toward system upgrades, completing 100 distribution and 25 major transmission projects in 2025 that enhance service reliability for more than 500,000 customers statewide.
3. Smart-Grid Restoration Technology
Implementation of advanced sensors and remote-control automation allowed crews to restore power to over one million customers within five days after Hurricane Helene, significantly reducing outage durations during severe weather events.
