Rocket Lab received German regulatory approval to acquire satellite laser communications provider Mynaric, expecting closing in April and establishing its first European footprint in Munich. Separately, it secured a $190 million US DoD contract for 20 hypersonic HASTE launches, pricing missions at approximately $9.5 million each and boosting its backlog.

1. Regulatory Approval for Mynaric Acquisition

Rocket Lab obtained approval from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy to acquire laser communications terminal provider Mynaric AG, with the transaction expected to close in April. Mynaric will remain headquartered in Munich, marking Rocket Lab’s first European footprint and enabling scaled production of optical terminals for national security and commercial satellite customers.

2. $190 Million Hypersonic HASTE Launch Contract

The company secured a $190 million contract from the US Department of Defense for 20 dedicated HASTE suborbital launches using its Electron rocket, with each mission priced at roughly $9.5 million. This landmark deal is the largest in Rocket Lab’s history by value and launch count, pushing its total backlog past $2 billion.

3. Strategic and Financial Implications

Integrating Mynaric’s laser communication capabilities will strengthen Rocket Lab’s position as a comprehensive provider of launch services and satellite components. The hypersonic contract not only enhances revenue visibility but also improves margin prospects amid rising demand for responsive space solutions and positions Rocket Lab at the forefront of national security and commercial markets.
