Gevo Unveils 550-Strong Patent Portfolio, Plans Global SAF Licensing with 17 New Patents

GEVOGEVO

Gevo secured 17 patents over two years, boosting its renewable fuels portfolio to over 550 issued and pending patents spanning ATJ, ETO pathways and carbon management. It is rolling out a global franchise licensing model to monetize its synthetic aviation fuel technology and integrated business system.

1. Strategic Licensing Model

Gevo is developing a replicable franchise approach aimed at licensing its synthetic aviation fuel (SAF) technology and business system worldwide. This model is designed to accelerate global deployment of its proprietary processes and generate recurring revenue streams through technology fees and support services.

2. Patent Portfolio Expansion

Over the past two years, Gevo has added 17 patents to its intellectual property portfolio, bringing its total to more than 550 issued and pending patents. These patents cover advanced low-cost production technologies for SAF, renewable diesel, renewable chemicals, and integrated carbon management systems.

3. Key Production Pathways

The patent suite includes Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) and Ethanol-to-Olefins (ETO) pathways that enable cost-effective conversion of bio-based feedstocks into energy-dense hydrocarbons and chemical intermediates. Foundational patents also protect Gevo’s carbon capture, sequestration and management innovations.

4. Integrated Business System

Beyond patents, Gevo has developed a comprehensive business system—including trade secrets, operational techniques and a performance-based pay model—to support licensees. This system leverages the company’s existing ethanol plant with CCS, RNG facility and specialty ATJ operations as proof points for scalable deployment.
