GlobalFoundries launched its SCALE optical module solution, the industry’s first Optical Compute Interconnect Multi-Source Agreement–capable co-packaged optics platform, demonstrating native 8λ and 16λ bi-directional DWDM support. Built on silicon photonics with CWDM and DWDM channels, SCALE offers 50Gbps/100Gbps devices and TSV-enabled 2.5D/3D stacking for AI data centers.

2. Technical Advancements

Built on advanced silicon photonics, SCALE leverages both coarse and dense wavelength-division multiplexing to boost bandwidth density and scalability versus copper interconnects. The platform includes 50Gbps and 100Gbps micro-ring modulators, integrated photodiodes, through silicon vias for high-speed power delivery, and copper pad pitches down to sub-45μm for 2.5D/3D stacking.
