General Motors will locally assemble the Chevrolet Groove and Aveo models at its Ramos Arizpe, Mexico facility from 2027 under a planned $1 billion investment. The move aims to boost domestic output to 80,000 vehicles annually by 2030 through GM’s five-plant Ramos Arizpe complex employing over 5,000 workers.

1. Assembly Shift to Mexico

Starting in 2027, GM will transfer Chevrolet Groove and Aveo assembly from its Asia joint ventures to the Ramos Arizpe facility in Coahuila, marking a strategic realignment of key compact model production.

2. $1 Billion Investment and Production Goals

The project is part of a $1 billion investment announced in January 2026, with the objective of reaching 80,000 domestically assembled vehicles per year by 2030, replacing current imports.

3. Ramos Arizpe Footprint and Supplier Network

GM’s Ramos Arizpe complex comprises five plants with over 5,000 employees; the company sources from 650 Mexican suppliers with $28 billion in annual procurement and employs over 700 engineers locally.

4. Broader Restructuring and Cost Measures

Concurrently, GM has initiated cuts of 500–600 salaried IT positions in the U.S. and agreed to pay $12.75 million to settle a California data-privacy lawsuit as part of wider cost reduction efforts.
