Gold miners gain as bullion edges higher

U.S.-listed gold miners rose premarket as bullion prices edged higher. Spot gold gained 0.3% to $4,183.84 an ounce as oil and the U.S. dollar retreated; expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike this month remained subdued ahead of key U.S. inflation data. Newmont and Barrick each rose about 1%, while South African miners gained 1.3% to 2.7% and Canadian miners rose 1.1% to 1.8%.
