CEG•Google contracted for 3,590 megawatts of power from Constellation Energy, including 890 megawatts from nuclear plants to be upgraded and 2,700 megawatts from other sources. The 20-year nuclear power purchase agreement is expected to enable more than $4.3 billion in new investment.
1. Power supply agreement
Google contracted for 3,590 megawatts of power from Constellation Energy in PJM, the largest U.S. power grid. The agreement includes a 20-year purchase of 890 megawatts from several Constellation nuclear plants, which will be upgraded, and a long-term supply agreement for another 2,700 megawatts not tied to a specific generation source.
2. Nuclear upgrades
The companies said the deal would enable more than $4.3 billion of new investment by Constellation. Eleven nuclear units in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey are expected to be upgraded, with electricity from the first upgraded plant expected in 2028.
3. PJM proposal
The companies said the agreement responds to PJM's proposal that data center customers bring their own power or face remote disconnection during peak demand.
