Google backs Constellation uprates adding 890 MW nuclear capacity to PJM grid under long-term PPA
Google struck a long-term power deal with Constellation to add 890 MW of nuclear capacity to the PJM grid through upgrades at six operating plants, with output targeted to rise by 2032.
1. Nuclear capacity upgrades
The deal targets physical upgrades at six operating nuclear plants in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey to increase output by 2032. Constellation will use Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise to optimize plant operations, speed uprate planning and streamline construction.
2. Jobs and power demand
Google said it now has more than 1.5 GW of U.S. nuclear capacity enabled through uprates and restarts tied to data center power demand. The deal supports about 4,400 existing jobs and around 7,200 construction jobs, while keeping upgrade costs off other ratepayers.
