Google Joins Qualcomm-Led Coalition of 40+ Partners to Develop 6G by 2029
Google has joined Qualcomm’s strategic coalition of over 40 global industry partners, unveiled at MWC Barcelona 2026, to develop 6G commercial systems starting in 2029. The AI-native network initiative focuses on connectivity, wide-area sensing and high-performance compute, potentially enhancing Google’s cloud and AI services.

Qualcomm announced at MWC Barcelona 2026 a strategic coalition of more than 40 global partners, including Google, aimed at accelerating the development and deployment of 6G commercial systems from 2029 onwards. The group has established a milestone-driven roadmap to ensure synchronized progress across network providers, device makers and cloud operators.
2. Google's Strategic Role
As a coalition member, Google will collaborate on network architecture design, edge computing integration and AI-driven network autonomy. Early engagement allows Google to influence standards for wide-area sensing and virtualized RAN, aligning 6G capabilities with its cloud infrastructure and AI service offerings.
3. 6G Roadmap and Technology Pillars
The coalition’s roadmap centers on three pillars: advanced connectivity through intelligent radios, integrated wide-area sensing for environmental awareness, and high-performance, energy-efficient compute in cloud RAN. Commercial system trials are slated to begin by 2027, with full-scale deployments targeted from 2029.
