Google has rolled out Immersive Navigation in its Maps app—the biggest driving update in over a decade. The redesign presents a vivid 3D perspective of buildings, overpasses and terrain, overlaying real-world details like lanes, crosswalks, traffic lights and stop signs to aid drivers.

The update leverages Google’s Gemini AI models to analyze fresh Street View and aerial imagery. By processing thousands of images, the system constructs an accurate spatial map of routes and landmarks, enabling real-time guidance that anticipates upcoming turns and merges.

This launch positions Google Maps more competitively against rival navigation services that already offer similar 3D features. Enhanced mapping could boost user engagement and create new avenues for location-based advertising revenue within Google’s ecosystem.
