Google Secures Broadcom Chip Supply for Next-Gen TPUs Through 2031, 3.5GW for Anthropic
Google and Broadcom have inked a supply assurance pact calling for Broadcom to deliver networking elements and next-generation Tensor Processing Units through 2031. Anthropic will gain around 3.5GW of Google’s TPU computing capacity from 2027 to support its AI model operations.
1. Deal Terms
Google and Broadcom signed a supply assurance agreement requiring Broadcom to deliver networking components and develop future-generation Tensor Processing Units for Google’s AI racks through 2031. Broadcom will also support manufacturing of Google’s TPUs under this multi-year pact, securing chip supply chain stability.
2. Anthropic Capacity Access
Under the expanded collaboration, Anthropic will access roughly 3.5GW of Google TPU-based computing capacity from 2027 to run its generative AI models. Deployment is expected primarily in the US, contingent on Anthropic’s ongoing commercial growth and involving operational and financial partners.
3. Strategic AI Infrastructure Impact
The agreements bolster Google Cloud’s AI infrastructure by guaranteeing access to custom AI processors and networking hardware, reducing reliance on third-party GPU providers. This move positions Google to scale its AI services and strengthen competitive differentiation in cloud-based model deployment.
