Greif exits coated recycled paperboard market, closes Sweetwater mill in Georgia
GEF•Greif to exit coated recycled paperboard market
Greif will exit the coated recycled paperboard market through the closure of its Sweetwater paperboard mill in Austell, Georgia.
Operations are expected to cease by the end of the calendar year, removing about 120,000 tons of annual capacity.
Roughly 90 employees will be affected; severance and career transition support are planned.
Impact on Sweetwater mill operations and customers
Sweetwater makes CRB, URB, and gypsum-facing paper. Greif said weak cost position and limited network integration drove the decision.
URB customers will be shifted to Greif’s broader North American URB mill network.
