Guidewire analysis flags elevated hurricane, storm-surge risk for 3.4 million Florida homes

Guidewire analysis flagged concentrated U.S. hurricane exposure despite NOAA’s near-average or slightly below-average outlook for the 2026 Atlantic season.

HazardHub identified 3.4 million Florida homes, 1 million Louisiana homes, and 800,000 Texas homes at elevated combined wind and storm-surge risk.

• Florida represented about 35% of its housing stock at elevated risk; 76% of residents live in coastal counties, amplifying insured-value concentration.
• Louisiana showed the highest concentration, with over 50% of homes classified high risk; Texas was about 7%, despite large absolute exposure.
• Top risk states by combined wind and surge concentration: Florida, Louisiana, Texas; followed by South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, New York, New Jersey.
