Hawaiian Electric reached a construction milestone on its Waena Battery Energy Storage System in Central Maui with the first six Tesla Megapacks installed.
The 40-MW, 160-MWh standalone project is designed to shift renewable output to peak demand, supporting Maui grid reliability.
Fifty-four Megapacks are planned; the project ranks among Hawaii’s largest battery systems.
