Hawaiian Electric restores power to most customers after Tropical Storm Lala outages
HEI•Power restoration continues after storm damage
Tropical Storm Lala damaged 60 transmission and subtransmission lines across Hawaii; 30 were repaired overnight, accelerating grid restoration work.
Roughly 57,000 customers remained without power as of 7 a.m., representing less than 15% of the utility’s total customer base.
Hawaii Island had about 27,700 customers without power; Maui County about 2,100; Oahu about 27,200, with repairs focused on damaged poles.
Oahu grid stability remained constrained by generation interconnection work; customers from Salt Lake to East Honolulu were again asked to conserve power.
Helicopters and drones continued damage assessments in remote terrain, signaling ongoing operational disruption and potentially extended restoration timelines in some areas.
