HII Signs MOU to Integrate Warship OS into ROMULUS Unmanned Vessels
HII has signed a memorandum of understanding with Applied Intuition to integrate its Warship OS AI-defined operating system into the ROMULUS unmanned surface vessel family. The collaboration aims to enhance autonomy, data integration, and scalable AI capabilities across unmanned and future crewed naval platforms.
1. MOU Overview
HII and Applied Intuition signed a memorandum of understanding at the Sea-Air-Space Exposition 2026 to collaborate on integrating AI-defined capabilities into next-generation naval platforms. The agreement establishes a framework for joint development of Applied Intuition’s Warship OS across HII’s shipbuilding programs.
2. Warship OS Integration
Under the MOU, Applied Intuition’s Warship OS will be integrated into HII’s ROMULUS family of unmanned surface vessels at the Breaux Brothers shipyard. The effort targets coordinated autonomy, navigation, and mission systems, aiming to reduce integration burdens and demonstrate scalable AI-defined performance for U.S. and allied navies.
3. Future Crewed Platform Plans
Both companies will explore extending Warship OS to future crewed naval vessels, focusing on open architecture and rapid capability insertion in line with evolving Navy requirements. HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division will collaborate on early-stage design and engineering for next-generation surface combatants.
