Honda teams with Redwire on space station robotics concept
HMC•Honda and Redwire are developing a robotics system for future commercial space stations to automate in-orbit research operations and reduce astronaut lab time. The concept combines Honda’s multi-fingered robotic hand with Redwire’s STAARK robotic arm and experiment locker technology.
1. Robotics concept
Honda began working with Redwire on a system for future commercial space stations, pairing Honda’s multi-fingered robotic hand with Redwire’s STAARK robotic arm and experiment locker technology to cut astronaut lab time. The project targets NASA’s planned shift from the International Space Station to commercially operated low-Earth-orbit stations, where smaller crews increase demand for automation.
2. Partner discussions
The companies plan to hold talks with commercial station developers at the International Astronautical Congress in Antalya, Türkiye, on Oct. 5-9, 2026.
