HPE to Install 1,500 Wi-Fi 7 Access Points in Two-Phase Stadium Overhaul

HPEHPE

HPE is rolling out over 1,500 Wi-Fi 7 access points managed via Aruba Central at Atlético de Madrid’s Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium across the 2025/26 and 2026/27 seasons. The AI-driven network will optimize RF parameters, power consumption and analytics while supporting a separate high-bitrate audiovisual production network.

1. Project Scope and Timeline

HPE will modernize the Riyadh Air Metropolitano Stadium’s communications over two phases during the 2025/26 and 2026/27 seasons, replacing eight-season-old infrastructure. The upgrade encompasses a complete network overhaul to support live events, concerts and corporate gatherings with high-density connectivity.

2. AI-Driven Wi-Fi Deployment

The network will feature over 1,500 Wi-Fi 7 access points managed through HPE Aruba Central, leveraging AirMatch technology to dynamically adjust RF channels and power based on user density. AI and machine learning will detect anomalies and optimize performance during peak traffic.

3. Security, Analytics and Energy Efficiency

Integrated AI-powered location services and presence analytics will generate heatmaps and mobility flows for improved security and staffing decisions. A dynamic power save mode enables access points to enter deep sleep or reduce functions when idle, cutting electricity consumption in large venues.

4. Dedicated Audiovisual Network and Future Expansions

A separate, QoS-segmented network will handle high-bitrate audiovisual traffic, with switching tests and latency validations underway. HPE networks will also extend to Sport City plots DS-01/DS-02 starting H1 2026 and a High-Performance Center between 2025 and 2027.
