Huntington Ingalls Lands $347M Option-Year Navy Contract for 200 Lionfish SUUVs
HII•HII secured an option-year award to produce up to 200 Lionfish SUUVs under a five-year, $347 million U.S. Navy program of record. The contract follows delivery of the 42nd vehicle at Pocasset and leverages the REMUS 300 commercial platform for ISR, mine countermeasures and anti-submarine warfare.
1. Option Year Award and Production Scope
HII received the option-year contract extension on the Lionfish small unmanned undersea vehicle program, enabling production of up to 200 units over five years with a total value exceeding $347 million. This award comes after the completion of the 42nd Lionfish vehicle at HII’s Pocasset facility, underscoring program momentum.
2. REMUS 300 Platform Features
The Lionfish SUUV is based on HII’s commercial REMUS 300 platform, featuring a modular, open-architecture design that allows rapid payload integration and future upgrades. Its multi-mission capabilities support mine countermeasures, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, anti-submarine warfare and electronic warfare, and it is the Navy’s first cyber-compliant undersea vehicle in production.
3. Strategic and Financial Impact
This contract bolsters HII’s unmanned systems revenue pipeline and demonstrates successful transition from prototype to full-scale production using dual-use commercial technology. With over 700 REMUS vehicles delivered worldwide—and more than 90% still in active service—HII reinforces its leadership in providing advanced undersea warfare systems.
