Hyundai Mobis Targets H1 2026 Launch of 5G Antenna-Integrated Telematics Unit
Hyundai Mobis will complete development of its 5G-based antenna-integrated Multi-function Telematics Control Unit (MTCU) by first half 2026 to penetrate the global connected-car market. The MTCU eliminates external antennas while enabling high-precision mapping, remote autonomous-driving control and ultra-HD streaming, positioning the company for SDV market leadership.
1. Hyundai Mobis Unveils Next-Generation 5G Telematics Control Unit
Hyundai Mobis has announced the development of its Multi-function Telematics Control Unit (MTCU), the industry’s first antenna-integrated, 5G-capable telematics solution. Unlike current 4G systems, the MTCU embeds the antenna within the controller module, delivering a sleeker vehicle profile while supporting ultra-high-definition streaming, over-the-air software updates and real-time vehicle-to-cloud communication. The company expects to complete product development by the end of the first half of 2026 and initiate mass production in the second half, targeting volume shipments to global automakers by early 2027.
2. Driving the Transition to Software-Defined Vehicles and High-Precision Services
As automakers pivot toward Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs), Hyundai Mobis positions its 5G telematics solution as a critical enabler of autonomous features and high-precision map services. The MTCU’s low latency and high bandwidth will allow remote control functions for advanced driver-assist systems and support future over-the-air deployment of new software features. Hyundai Mobis forecasts that the market for 5G-based telematics modules will grow at a compound annual rate exceeding 25% between 2026 and 2030, reflecting rising demand for connected-car services and regulatory mandates for vehicle cybersecurity and remote diagnostics.
3. Strategic Partnerships and Global Commercialization
To accelerate market rollout, Hyundai Mobis has partnered with leading mobile modem specialists, including Korea’s AM, to integrate best-in-class data transmission and signal conversion technology. The company showcased the MTCU at CES 2026, securing expressions of interest from three major European and North American OEMs. Hyundai Mobis will leverage its existing telematics production lines—currently manufacturing over 1.2 million 4G units annually—and its R&D centers in Korea, Germany, the U.S., China and India to scale manufacturing capacity to meet forecasted global demand.
