IBM Lands Five-Year SAP S/4HANA Migration Deal with Abertis Subsidiaries
IBM•IBM has signed a five-year agreement to migrate Abertis’s infrastructure to SAP S/4HANA across five subsidiaries in Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Chile and Puerto Rico. The deal aims to boost system scalability and reliability for millions of daily transactions, integrate real-time analytics and enhance user-facing web and mobile applications.

IBM and Abertis have entered a five-year technology modernization agreement under which IBM will migrate Abertis’s core systems to SAP S/4HANA. This long-term partnership extends more than a decade of collaboration and targets comprehensive upgrades across multiple operational platforms.
2. Technical Scope and Objectives
The project focuses on improving system scalability, reliability and security to handle millions of daily transactions, while embedding near–real-time analytics capabilities. A joint governance model establishes success metrics, quality gates and change-management processes to ensure seamless implementation.
3. Geographic Coverage
The agreement covers Abertis operations in Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Chile and Puerto Rico, with contractual options to roll out the common SAP framework to additional markets in Europe and the Americas. This standardized architecture will adapt to diverse regulatory and operational requirements.
4. User and Business Impact
Beyond back-end enhancements, IBM will develop new web portals and mobile applications for Abertis customers, enabling secure account management, streamlined payments and transparent trip information. The modernization is designed to reduce operational friction, strengthen toll collection and elevate the overall user experience.
