IBM unveiled Masters Vault Search and enhanced AI-driven Hole Insights at the 90th Masters Tournament, enabling exploration of over 50 years of final-round broadcasts with OCR, speech-to-text and agentic AI-driven clip retrieval. They leverage watsonx and Granite SLM models to calculate real-time shot probabilities and performance trends for golf fans.

1. Launch of Masters Vault Search and Hole Insights

IBM introduced Masters Vault Search, transforming over 50 years of final-round tournament broadcasts into an interactive, conversation-style archive using agentic AI. The company also rolled out enhanced Hole Insights, capturing on-course shot coordinates to provide contextual probabilities—such as birdie or par chances—based on historical performance data.

2. Underlying watsonx and AI Technologies

Both features are powered by IBM’s watsonx AI platform and Granite small language models, integrating optical character recognition, speech-to-text transcription and scene-detection algorithms to index and retrieve specific clips. Real-time shot analysis combines coordinate data with historical stroke records dating back to 1968 and individual stroke metrics from 2015 onward.

3. Strategic Significance for IBM

This deployment marks the 30th year of IBM’s partnership with the Masters Tournament, showcasing its hybrid cloud and AI capabilities to global audiences. By highlighting agentic AI solutions in a high-profile sporting event, IBM aims to reinforce its position in enterprise AI and drive broader adoption of watsonx technologies across industries.
