NRS’s March same-store sales rose 2.9% year-over-year while unit sales fell 1.2% and transactions declined 0.4%. The platform’s POS terminals processed $2.2 billion in March, up 8% year-over-year across 145 million transactions, and average prices for top 500 items rose 1.4%, the slowest increase in almost two years.

1. March Sales Performance

NRS recorded a 2.9% increase in same-store sales for March 2026 compared to March 2025, down from a 4.0% gain in February. The three-month period ending March 31 showed a 3.8% year-over-year rise, reflecting moderated growth in discretionary retail purchases.

2. Transaction and Unit Trends

March unit sales declined 1.2% year-over-year and baskets per store fell 0.4%, continuing a trend of modest transaction decreases. Sequentially, same-store sales rose 4.3% from February, but the drop in transaction counts suggests shifting consumer behavior.

3. Average Price and Inflation Trends

The dollar-weighted average price of the top 500 items climbed 1.4% year-over-year in March, the lowest increase recorded since mid-2024. This slowdown in price growth signals easing inflationary pressure within NRS’s predominantly urban convenience retail network.

4. Platform Reach and Sales Volume

As of March 31, NRS operated approximately 39,100 active POS terminals across 33,800 independent stores nationwide. In March, these terminals processed $2.2 billion in sales, an 8% year-over-year increase across 145 million transactions, underscoring network expansion and higher transaction volumes.
