Indian shares open flat after foreign outflows
INDA•Indian shares were little changed at the open as gains in most sectors were offset by foreign selling. Foreign investors sold 99.8 billion rupees ($1.04 billion) of shares on Tuesday, their biggest outflow in about four months.
1. Indexes little changed
The Nifty 50 fell 0.06% to 22,702.9, while the Sensex added 0.13% to 72,605.07 as of 9:20 a.m. IST. Twelve of 16 major sectors advanced, while small-cap and mid-cap indexes rose 1% and 0.9%, respectively.
2. Foreign selling continues
Foreign investors have sold $2.7 billion of shares in September, taking their year-to-date selling to $26.75 billion. Brent crude rose 1% to $103.7 a barrel after U.S. President Donald Trump denied he was willing to ease sanctions on Iran; the absence of a U.S.-Iran peace deal kept risk sentiment fragile.
