Japan's Nikkei rises as AI-related shares track US semiconductor rally
EWJ•Japan's Nikkei rose 1.3% to 66,342.71, while the Topix gained 0.6% to 4,067.98, as AI-related shares tracked US semiconductor gains and lower oil prices lifted economy-sensitive stocks.
1. Technology shares gain
SoftBank Group rose 6.23%, while Tokyo Electron gained 3.13% and Advantest rose 1.03%. Fujikura climbed 6.21%. Taiyo Yuden gained 3.8% after saying it would form a business alliance with TDK, whose shares rose 1.3%; Murata Manufacturing fell 2.7%.
2. Market breadth mixed
Banking shares rose, with Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group up 1.3% and Mizuho Financial Group gaining 2.35%. Among more than 1,500 stocks on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's prime market, 44% rose, 51% fell and 3% were flat.
