Robinhood to allow 24-hour weekend trading of US stocks as industry shifts to wider access
HOOD•Robinhood said it will let users trade select US stocks and ETFs around the clock on weekends, pending regulatory review. The brokerage also announced earnings-related event contracts, perpetual futures and in-app AI trading agents.
1. Weekend stock trading
Robinhood said it will let users trade a curated list of US stocks and ETFs around the clock on weekends, in partnership with overnight trading infrastructure firm Bruce ATS. The feature is pending regulatory review. Robinhood has offered round-the-clock weekday trading since 2023 and said up to 25% of daily volume on busy days came from outside traditional hours about 10 months after launch.
2. Other trading features
Robinhood will let users wager on corporate earnings metrics through a partnership with Cboe, including whether a company surpasses earnings estimates or reaches a targeted revenue figure. Eligible US customers will also be able to trade perpetual futures, which have no expiration date, and build AI agents in the app to execute trades on their behalf.
3. Extended market hours
The moves come as Nasdaq and the London Stock Exchange plan to expand trading hours. Some worry thin liquidity outside traditional hours could leave traders without optimal prices.
