1. Exports rise sharply
Indonesia’s aluminium exports in August climbed 30.7% from the prior month to 157,880 tons of primary and unwrought alloyed aluminium, data from the country’s statistics bureau showed. More than half of the metal went to Western markets.
2. Major destinations
About 60,000 tons went to the United States, while shipments included roughly 17,000 tons to Italy and nearly 13,000 tons to Montenegro. Exports in the first eight months of 2026 totalled 699,432 tons.
3. Supply context
August exports were more than three times the amount shipped a year earlier. The article said exports rose as Indonesian smelters, largely built by Chinese investors, ramped up production, with outages in the war-hit Middle East cited as a factor in Indonesia emerging as a crucial new source of supply.
