Infineon invests EUR 1.1 billion in GaN chip production expansion in Austria
Infineon will invest about EUR 1.1 billion through 2034 to expand gallium nitride power semiconductor production in Villach, Austria. The European Commission cleared EUR 319 million in state aid, while formal Austrian funding confirmation is pending.
1. Production expansion
The project will establish the world’s first high-volume production of gallium nitride power chips on 300-millimeter wafers, using existing cleanroom space. Production is scheduled to start in late 2027, with output ramping up in line with market demand.
