Intel Launches 18A-P Production as Nvidia Tests Node for GPUs
NVDA•Intel has begun production of its 18A-P node, a more powerful, energy-efficient version of its 18A process, and Google has placed orders for TPUs on this technology while Nvidia is testing future GPUs on the same node. Intel’s data center revenue jumped 38% to $5.45 billion in the latest quarter.
1. Intel Begins 18A-P Production
Intel has started volume production of its 18A-P node, marking a key milestone in its foundry roadmap. This new process offers higher performance and better energy efficiency than prior 18A chips, targeting both mobile devices and data center workloads.
2. Nvidia Evaluates 18A-P for Next-Gen GPUs
Nvidia is conducting internal tests to determine if its future GPU architectures can leverage Intel’s 18A-P process. A successful partnership would diversify Nvidia’s supply chain beyond TSMC and potentially reduce lead times for new GPU launches.
3. Foundry Business Growth and Challenges
Intel’s foundry arm reported $5.45 billion in data center revenue last quarter, a 38% year-over-year increase, but still posted a $2.4 billion operating loss. Continued investment in advanced nodes aims to attract external clients, with Google placing initial TPU orders and Nvidia in evaluation.
