International Airlines Group (IAG) confirmed on Friday that José Antonio Barrionuevo, currently Chief Financial Officer of its British Airways unit, will assume the role of Group CFO on June 1. Barrionuevo succeeds Nicholas Cadbury, who has held the position since 2019 and will remain on the executive committee through the end of Q3 to ensure a smooth transition. Barrionuevo joined BA’s finance leadership team in 2017, was appointed Finance Director for long-haul operations in 2019 and elevated to BA CFO in early 2021, overseeing a recovery in revenues from £7.9 billion in 2020 to £13.4 billion in 2022. In his new role, he will be responsible for IAG’s consolidated financial strategy, capital allocation across a fleet of more than 550 aircraft, and the delivery of cost-saving initiatives targeting €1.2 billion in annual synergies by year-end. The appointment reflects IAG’s emphasis on internal succession planning, following a record turnover of €28.1 billion in 2023 and a debt reduction goal of €4.5 billion by 2025.
