Iran says US response to its proposal to reopen Hormuz was 'insufficient'
USO•Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei said the US response to Iran’s seven conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz was “insufficient.” Iran said the waterway could reopen and normal maritime passage resume within seven days if its conditions were met.
1. Iran’s conditions
Iran presented its proposal during the UN General Assembly and later received a US response through Qatari intermediaries, Rezaei said. He said the US had accepted some conditions while others remained unclear, and that the Strait would not be opened and negotiations would not take place until the conditions were met.
2. Mediation efforts
Rezaei said Iran was “no longer in the process of responding to the Americans.” Qatar and other mediators have transmitted messages between Washington and Tehran to end the conflict and reopen the Strait, which carried a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas before the war began at the end of February with US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
