Iran's Revolutionary Guards woo US voters with open letter
USO•Iran's Revolutionary Guards urged US midterm voters to oppose President Donald Trump's policies and US support for Israel in a 25-page open letter. A spokesperson said he did not expect it to change the US administration's behavior, while Iran's oil exports through the Strait of Hormuz are set to reach almost 10 million barrels per day in September.
1. Appeal to US voters
The Guards' open letter urged Americans to oppose US support for Israel and foreign wars, and argued that Iran and the US could coexist if US policy changed. Spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi said he did not expect the letter to affect the administration's behavior, but believed voters might hear its message.
2. Dispute over oil exports
Mohebbi challenged US assertions that Iran had lost most of its leverage over the Strait of Hormuz. September oil exports through the strait are set to reach almost 10 million barrels per day, about half the pre-war volume.
