Japan's 30-year government bond yield reached a record 4.235% on Monday and was last up 1.5 basis points at 4.22% as investors awaited Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's remarks at the opening of an extraordinary parliamentary session.
Market participants are watching for signs of a potential shift in Takaichi's reflationary policy stance. She was reportedly expected to pledge a nimble response to unexpected developments in the economy and financial markets. Investors have grown increasingly concerned that her spending plans could worsen Japan's fiscal position.
The two-year JGB yield fell 1.5 basis points to 1.9%, while the 10-year yield declined 2 basis points to 3.08%. Government bonds globally have been under pressure amid elevated energy prices, persistent inflation concerns and expectations of higher interest rates.
