1. Nikkei rebounds
Japan's Nikkei share average advanced 1.73% to close at 63,268.37 on Tuesday, while the broader Topix rose 0.61% to 3,997.37. The Nikkei pared an earlier gain of more than 2% as optimism returned to AI-related shares after Anthropic filed to list its shares.
2. Technology shares lead
Advantest surged 8.98%, giving the Nikkei its biggest boost. SoftBank Group rose 4.95% and Tokyo Electron added 3.07%. The tech-heavy Nikkei often moves in tandem with the Philadelphia semiconductor index, which rose 2.8% overnight.
3. Investors weigh earnings
Daiwa Securities strategist Daisuke Hashizume said the market was relieved by Anthropic's IPO news and technology heavyweights tracked the U.S. chip index higher. He said investors remained cautious about buying shares ahead of earnings from U.S. hyperscalers such as Alphabet and Microsoft this week. Anthropic's filing disclosed steep losses and rapid revenue growth.
