Joby Aviation Partners with Uber for Dubai Air Taxi Launch after 50,000 Miles of Tests
Joby Aviation’s four-passenger electric air taxi will be bookable through Uber’s app, launching in Dubai later this year and targeting a U.S. debut once FAA certification is complete after 50,000 miles of flight tests. The deal follows Joby’s 2021 acquisition of Uber’s Elevate division and could boost early revenue streams.
1. Uber Partnership and Dubai Launch
Joby Aviation has integrated its four-passenger electric air taxi into the Uber app, enabling bookings for qualified routes. The service is set to debut in Dubai later this year, marking the first commercial deployment of urban air mobility in a major city.
2. Aircraft Specifications and Testing
The VTOL aircraft travels at up to 200 mph with a 100-mile range on a single charge and operates with significantly lower noise levels than traditional helicopters. Joby has completed over 50,000 miles of flight tests to validate performance and safety.
3. FAA Certification and U.S. Rollout
Joby has entered the final stage of the Federal Aviation Administration certification process, a key milestone before U.S. commercial operations. Pending FAA approval, Joby aims to expand service to select U.S. cities following the Dubai launch.
