JPMorgan says ex-banker Rana pushed sister, friend to lie to support sexual assault case
JPM•JPMorgan urged a federal judge to dismiss former investment banker Chirayu Rana’s sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuit, accusing him of persuading his sister and a friend to give false testimony. His sister has recanted her testimony; Rana’s lawyer has sought to withdraw from the case.
1. JPMorgan seeks dismissal
JPMorgan Chase asked a federal judge in Manhattan to dismiss Chirayu Rana’s lawsuit, saying his alleged bad faith and misconduct warrant the “most serious sanction available.” Executive Lorna Hajdini, also a defendant, has separately sought dismissal and countersued Rana for defamation. JPMorgan and Hajdini are also seeking legal costs.
2. Testimony recanted
JPMorgan said Rana enlisted his sister, Chandani Rana, and longtime friend Allan Flott to provide false sworn testimony about Hajdini’s alleged conduct. Chandani Rana recanted on October 22, saying Hajdini had never been to her apartment and that she had not seen her engage in inappropriate conduct. Flott has not recanted, JPMorgan said. Rana has accused Hajdini of coercing him into sex and JPMorgan of accepting sexual coercion and racism; both have denied his allegations. His lawyer has sought to withdraw, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
